The Concept of Coffee Spoons

Welcome to A Life In Coffee Spoons!

The in concept of coffee spoons comes from T.S Eliot, who used the line “I have measured out my life in coffee spoons” in his poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, originally published in 1917. This phrase has always been one of my favorites.

To me, coffee spoons represent the trivialities that we experience throughout every minute of the day: The good grade on a test, the bad taco you ate for lunch, the compliment someone gave you in the hallway. These experiences could turn out to be meaningful, or might be forgotten the next day.

In the end, however, they are the nibbles and bits that make up life. Without coffee spoons stirring around your cup everyday, what would existence be at all? It’s a series of events that tie together into something greater.

So what better way to describe a blog? These are my events, perceptions, and thoughts, coffee spoon after coffee spoon, somehow fitting together into the life I’m living.

I hope you enjoy it!
